Sir Jim Ratcliffe supports ‘Amorim’ to manage the Red Devils long term

Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has hailed Ruben Amorim as a “great coach” and insisted the Portuguese will be at the club for a “long time”. Amorim has struggled

since replacing Erik ten Hag in November, winning just 11 of his 26 games in charge, with reports suggesting United could be looking for a new manager this summer.

However, Ratcliffe has dismissed the speculation and is confident the former Sporting Lisbon boss will remain at Old Trafford for the long haul.

United are 14th in the Premier League after drawing 1-1 at Arsenal on Sunday, a run that continues from a disappointing eighth-place finish in the Premier League last season.

Ratcliffe admitted the club’s current situation is not good. And he feels some players are “not good enough” and “some are overpaid”. He says rebuilding the team to suit the owners’ wishes will take time.

“We are in a period of transition, from the past to the future,” Ratcliffe said . Ratcliffe

was also at Old Trafford on Sunday as thousands of fans protested before the game, targeted by the club’s majority owners the Glazer family. But Ratcliffe has also come under fire for his cost-cutting measures, which have included the loss of 450 jobs. The

72-year-old British billionaire has also approved a hike in ticket prices, which has angered many fans. But he insists the measures are necessary to prevent United from spiralling into financial crisis.

“We are in a period of transition, a difficult time with great uncertainty. I understand and sympathise with the fans, but if we don’t do these things the club could face the prospect of not having any money for Christmas.” Ratcliffe added
